A collaboration with CBG Architects and Burns McCrave Design the existing double fronted Victorian era residence in Elsternwick offered extensive design scope to weave the cottage into a dream family residence.
The brief included delivering a fusion of large open plan living zones, dedicated home office space and highly detailed, layered interiors. Scope encompassed complete demolition to shell and significant structural re-work to encourage the heavily articulated transition from heritage to contemporary style. Services infrastructure was rebuilt in totality with the introduction of sophisticated automation systems, consideration for sustainable solutions and minimalist design impact.
Details abound with individual spaces carrying their own discrete identity reflecting a continual play on scale and pattern. Finishes are tactile, warm and natural, largely facilitated via bespoke joinery and bold wall coverings.
The result is a build that actively accepts the work of prior generations and bonds these elements into a contemporary, architectural solution.
